"002"

Have you ever met someone who has many secrets? Have you ever met a spy? Have you ever connected with someone who seems to be everything you are looking for, only to discover that they are not what they seem, and it comes around to hurt you in the heart? Well, this is a story of the secret martini, "002". A martini that contains a mysterious ingredient that comes across ultra smooth, then comes back to hit you in the head!

Throughout your lifetime, you will encounter people who give you a jolt, and you may experience an overwhelming connection. This usually occurs when you least expect it. It sweeps you away and time seems to stand still. Many people refer to this experience as the moment when you meet your "soul mate". I have been fortunate enough to have this happen to me twice in my life, so I recognize the feeling and know that it is impossible to resist. So, when it happened a few days ago, I knew I had to go with it. What I did not know was how much I was going to get my ass kicked. It happened on a random day, a day where I unexpectedly went skiing, and a day where I accidently bumped into some friends and met him. "002" was his nickname, and after our initial conversation, I sensed that I was in big trouble! But, I had no idea how much trouble I would be in four days later!

After several chairlift conversations and martinis at après, I knew I was doomed. The energy was intense; he was charismatic, charming, intelligent, and undoubtedly hilarious. Physically, he was not my usual type, but he had the most amazing smile.

"   I was so swept away by his smoothness that I missed the warning signs! "

Why didn’t my warning bells go off when he answered vaguely about his profession, and when he subtly changed the topic when questioned about his life? Why did I not believe him when he said that he worked at the Pentagon? Duh!

The ski day continued into the evening and we found ourselves sampling a new martini creation. It was all consuming and elusive – just like the gentleman I was with. I discovered that the 002 Martini was a refreshing mixture of Citron Vodka with fresh lemon and lime, but the secret ingredients that really gave it the kick were tequila and coriander. This combination of ingredients was mind blowing and after a few of these, I found myself dancing the night away with 002. The dancing was followed by a 4am chat, snuggles, sex, more skiing, more laughter, late night dinners, and intense conversations.

After two whirlwind days, I came up for air and decided to take some time away from 002. As I gasped for oxygen, my mind began to clear and I slowly realized that certain things did not make sense. He had spoken of his dreams, concerns, and fears, but his actions were in contradiction to what he said he truly wanted. My rose coloured glasses lifted after a conversation we had had about living in the present and following our hearts and dreams. I watched as he erected a bullet-proof wall to hide his emotions. Everything instantly changed! 002 became two different people. One person wanted to dream, change his life, move to a mountain town, fall in love, and follow his heart. The other person lived by a code of fear; fear of making a mistake or a change, fear of going against structure and the norm, and fear of taking a chance in love or life. What I was not prepared for was the dark side of 002; the man that emerged was the hidden double agent! This man was all about pleasing himself. He was the player who was all about having two women!

002’s dark side did the unthinkable...

On the day of 002’s departure, I was at peace with myself. Grateful for, once again, encountering a soul mate, and content in the knowledge that, as with others before him, we came together for lessons learned. These encounters, however, do not generally amount to a lasting relationship. This is usually because the two parties produce such intensity and transformation together, that one person pulls away in fear. What I was not prepared for was the unthinkable. The call came from my tearful girlfriend who confessed to sleeping with 002 the night before! As the rage, jealousy, and unbelievable hurt washed over me, I found myself speaking of our code. The girlfriend code, that is. It is the code of loyalty amongst the inner circle of girlfriends. This code was now broken in my circle. Horribly broken! As I mixed myself a martini all I could think of was; "How could she do this? What was she thinking?" She wasn’t thinking! And I realized that she was not thinking because she too, had been a victim of the powers of 002. He had used his super spy power, charisma, and charm on her, just as he had with me! We had both been sucked in by the dark side of 002!

Conclusion

Could sisterhood survive the soul mate/spy? Of course! Soul mates come and go, but sisters are forever. With a few 002 Martinis under our belts and many tears later, the code was reinstated and re-cemented! We were grateful that we had survived 002. However, we wondered how he would survive. One body with two men inside, each one fighting for control over his life! What is life if you do not have dreams? What is life if you do not have courage to follow your dreams? The key to following your dreams is the 002 Martini. Why? Because the 002 Martini has the bliss of smooth lemon/lime flavour, combined with the secret ingredients of tequila and coriander to give you a kick! This kick will push you to follow your dreams, overcome your fears, and take a chance on love, life, and everything in between. When you love, laugh, and cry in a 72 hour period, you know that you are truly living!
