The Blowoff Martini

By: Marjie Martini

Ever had one of those days where you feel like a total loser? Rejection is never a pleasant experience and one of the worse forms is the “Blow off.” When this occurs I have found a martini that will turn that frown upside down.

The Blow-off martini is tantalizing blend of Scotch and Butterscotch Schnapps with a hint of Vermouth. It is rich with sweetness and packs a punch. Garnished with cherries this martini is pretty and sometimes a girl just needs her martini and herself to feel beautiful.

A few nights ago my good friend J.R. called when I was feeling ugly. He suggested that I get sassed up and join him for a beverage; he had a cure for my blahs. As I donned a great pair of shoes and headed out for a cocktail I realized that a night with a handsome man would cheer me up. When I arrived at our favorite martini bar, I was greeted with a hug and kiss. As J.R. ordered our martinis he asked me

“What has caused the most beautiful lady I know, to be so sad?”

I replied with a heavy sigh, “I got the blow off from the boyfriend.” “Unbelievable, he must be crazy!” J.R. stated. Our martinis arrived; I took my first sip and was intrigued by the rich smoothness of butterscotch. After a few more sips I painstakingly began to retell my blow-off story. For several months I had been dating this great guy, who seemed really into me. However, over the past few weeks I had experienced the blow-off signals: unreturned phone calls, emails and im’s, and the cancellation of dates. After a blow off, I would receive the “I’m sorry” or “Miss you” message. When we did connect we had a great time and he would affirm how much he was into me. I was perplexed because his actions were in contradiction of his words. (This from a man? Come on!) Was his behavior was the result of bad time management, work, or double dipping. If he was not interested anymore, why wouldn’t he just tell me?

J.R. listened intently, wiped my tears and just kept ordering martinis. Then he shed some insight into the situation. J.R. stated “Men are not good at dealing with confrontation.” I was not getting the “Blow-off” but I was in fact dating a freak’ in loser. Any guy who can’t get his shit together to go out with a hot chick is an idiot, and if he was double dipping, then he was missing out on one incredible woman. His suggestion was to shop elsewhere for my loving, this guy was not worthy of my time or affection. J.R. stated “Of the women I know, you have men lined up at your door!” Instantly I felt better, I was not sure if it was the martinis or J.R. reminding me that I should not be tolerating poor behavior. As I hugged J.R. goodnight, I realized how lucky I was to have such a fabulous friend.

Conclusion:

The Blow-off martini is incredibly different. The combination of scotch and butterscotch schnapps is so remarkable that it is a martini everyone has to try. The best part of this martini is the lingering finish of scotch and the pretty cherries. When you experience the blow-off signals it is easy to feel rejected. But remember that any person who does not respect your time or affection is not worthy of being in your life. When you surround yourself with friends and lovers that honor you, it is impossible not to feel beautiful. The only Blow-off you should have in your life is the martini; it will always make you feel better.
