The Decadent Martini

By: Marjie Martini

There are evenings that occur once in your life, that you will never forget. The memories of these nights are ones that you relive, as the times of true decadence. These are the moments when you are surrounded by life long friends, fabulous food, wicked wine and of course, a martini. The Decadent martini is reserved for special occasions because it is true indulgence.

A few weeks ago, I found myself gathered with eight of my closest friends at our favorite seafood restaurant. This dinner was a 35 th birthday celebration for one of my girlfriends and we had decided to go “All Out”! This restaurant was the top in town and so were its prices, it was a treat for all of us. I had arranged the Decadent martini for dessert because it is the only way to celebrate such an occasion. The Decadent is the after dinner and dessert martini in one. The killer combination of Espresso Vodka, Godiva Chocolate liqueur and Baileys is unbelievable. What takes this martini to the next level is the addition of Haagen-Dazs “dulce de leche” ice cream. But wait! It does not stop there, garnished with a strawberry “tip up” and warm caramel sauce, this martini becomes complete bliss. When I selected this martini for the evening, little did I know that we were going to experience an entire evening of decadence?

Every great dinner should start and end with a martini, so that is how this evening began. We all selected martinis from the menu and when they arrived in all their glory we toasted the birthday girl. There were Cosmos, Flirtinis, Appletinis, Manhattens, Dirties and the Classics. There is something about a toast with many multi colored martini glasses that is just down right sexy. As we sipped our martinis we discussed what delectable entrée to order. It was a difficult choice; the menu was so good it made your mouth water. The best thing about eating with good friends is that you can always share and sample each other's dinner, that way you can try it all.

The indulgence started when the appetizers arrived; a succulent seafood antipasto platter with dozens of oysters and a complementary bottle of white wine. As we tasted the oysters the conversation turned sexual, which is to be expected with this group of friends. The opening question was:

“Are oysters a true aphrodisiac?” Do they really increase sexual desire?”

The debate was on, and I loved every moment! Some said “Yes”, others a definite “No”. The conclusion was; that is all relevant to how much you like the slimy suckers. There are many other aphrodisiacs: chocolate, figs, truffles, asparagus, almonds, bananas and basil. When I researched aphrodisiacs I found that it was questionable whether they actually do increase sexual desire. A lot of foods that have been deemed to have aphrodisiac qualities where derived from mythology. They were given this title because of their physical resemblance to genitalia. The consensus at my dinner table was that the best aphrodisiacs where chocolate, wine and martinis. Go figure! Martinis have never helped anyone I know get laid!

Our aphrodisiac conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the entrees. The food was all consuming. Beef tenderloin, sea bass, duck breast, lobster and ahi tuna, all prepared with marvelous marinades and side dishes. Plus, a tasty red wine to wash it all down. We raved about the flavors and savored every bite as we all knew that it was so rare for us to experience such a decadent meal. The food was stellar! After dinner, true indulgence arrived. Eight elegant Decadent martinis were placed on the table complete with a candle for the birthday girl. As we sipped our martinis the topic of sex returned. It was hilarious! We had all consumed the top aphrodisiacs; wine, martinis, oysters and chocolate. I wondered if any of us were going to get lucky tonight?

The aphrodisiac conversation continued but now it included the latest and greatest sexual lotions, oils and crèmes. It seemed that everyone had some kind of magic potion hidden in their bedside table, and K-Y was old news. It was all about the lube! Lube was just not lube anymore. There are differences, silicone verses water based, non-flavored verses flavored. The biggest consideration was the sticky factor and how long it lasts. The most popular lubes seemed to be Astroglide, I.D. and WET. I was also impressed that everyone had some kind of stimulating lube. The ladies all agreed the O’My clitoral stimulating gel was the best! Expensive but well worth the price! (Like great shoes) It can get you going in minutes; the gel is fantastic when your guy is way ahead of you! The best insight came from my buddy who told us about his “Stud Spray” a spray lube that makes his hard on last longer! The table was in fits of laughter after that comment, but he swears it works wonders! Giggling, I sat back and wondered, how had our lives become so decadent? We not only indulged in a great meal but it seemed that we all indulged in enhanced sex. Had lubes and lotions become the modern day aphrodisiac?

Conclusion:

The Decadent is the after dinner and dessert martini in one. A fusion of caramel, espresso, and chocolate that is so intense your taste buds will explode. This martini should be savored as it is true indulgence. There are moments in your life of true decadence, the factors that make up these moments are not so much what you consume but who you consume them with. When it comes to evenings of fabulous food, they will become great memories because of the friends that you celebrated with. Nights of decadent sex can be enhanced by aphrodisiacs but they are truly memorable when you have a partner that turns you on. But, just for the record! The Decadent martini is not only indulgent, it will make you horny! And besides isn’t life about trying it all?
