The Fever Martini

By: Marjie Martini

What is it about the melting of the snow and blooming of flowers that causes women to go a little crazy? I now understand the true meaning of “spring fever”. I thought it referred to spring friskiness but it is a fever that causes women to go a little psycho. What is it about spring that causes every sane woman I know to have a full melt down? The Fever martini was created to help deal with the insanity.

A few days ago I awoke to persistent banging on my front door. My favorite girlfriends barged in and ordered me to get dressed because we were going out for a martini. I was not amused. I had been hiding in bed for two days and the last thing I wanted to do was go out. Arguing was useless, so out I went! My hair in a ponytail, wearing sunglasses to cover my swollen eyes and god forbid an old pair of shoes. The 3 of us where not an attractive sight when we ended up at our favorite martini bar. Thank god the bartender was our friend because he knew exactly how to handle three women having a melt down.

We hid in the corner of the bar and instantly Kleenex and the Fever martini arrived. He guaranteed us that this martini would make us feel fabulous and the Kleenex, well that was just in case. Considering I felt like a pile of poo, I was surprised that after my first sip I did smile slightly. The Fever martini had a refreshing taste; it is a flavorful blend of Vodka, Giffard Lichi Li liqueur, cranberry and aloe vera juice. I have to admit that after a few sips I did start to feel a little better. As we sipped our martinis one by one we all vented and cried. How had our lives become so overwhelming? We were all on the edge of exhaustion and had no patience. Everything was an aggravation particularly our partners, kids and careers. We just couldn’t juggle life anymore, the pressure and stress felt like never ending P.M.S times 10. For women that usually had it together we were all experiencing feelings of insecurity, loneliness, frustration and fear. We wanted to turn the world off and hide in bed, which is what I had been doing for the past 2 days, but even that did not seem to help.

As we cried, talked and drank the Fever martini we slowly started to chuckle and then the tears dried and the laughter increased. We realized our energy cups where empty. All winter we had expended our energy into everyone and everything and had not taken anytime to refill our cups. The melt down was a chain reaction, once one women start to lose it then we all melted. The cycle had started with a rash of freak accidents where in one week we all had been injured. It was like the universe was telling us to slow down but guess what? When you are women with careers, companies, kids and partners you feel a lot of pressure to keep going and slowing down sometimes is not an option. This is when the melt down is inevitable.

It is interesting that men don’t melt down maybe because they don’t over do it. When men get maxed out, they either get sick or crusty. We all know what men are like when they are sick: big babies and guess who takes care of them? However, men can not deal with the female melt down! They either ignore the situation completely and wait for it to blow over, or they run away because they are scared their woman is psycho. Neither offers any support. This reinforces that the only person who can support a woman in a melt down, is another woman. Sometimes all a woman needs is to have her cup filled up with the love and support of her girlfriends.

Conclusion:

Everything in nature dies in the winter and then comes back to life, fresh and new in the spring. Do women need to shed all the pressures of winter in the spring? The Fever martini was created to help ease the craziness of spring melt down. The flavors of Lichi Li and Aloe Vera are fresh and uplifting. When a woman looses it, they only person that can pull her out of the pit of pressure is a good girlfriend combined with a great cry and a killer martini. For men, it is better to ignore the melt down then run away because after a woman sheds her winter cocoon she emerges even more beautiful, loving and grounded. Remember, this is the reward for surviving the fever.
