The Package

Do some of us really have it all going on? Do friends tell you that you have everything to offer that someone special? Do you believe you can find everything you want in one, neat and tidy package, or have you succumbed to society’s belief that this is impossible, and eventually you will have to settle for less than ideal? What does it take to find the perfect package and does it actually exist?

I have come to the conclusion that North Americans are totally insecure! It seems that everyone has an issue. Most of us believe that we are not attractive enough, not fit enough, and we don’t make enough money. We feel we are too fat, too old, or that we have too much baggage. This seems to be a theme amongst us, regardless of whether we are married, single, or gay. What is the deal? Why are we trying so desperately to be the perfect package? Are we trying to attract the perfect mate, or keep the partner that we already have? Perhaps we simply want to be admired by the "supposedly" perfect people that we believe surround us. Well, after two and a half years of dating, I was emotionally and mentally drained. I was done with all the insecure, non-communicative, non-committal men who spoke of wanting more, but who continued to settle for dissatisfying relationships. So, a few months ago, I decided to date myself and go on a quest for a martini that was the perfect package. It did indeed turn up where, and when, I least expected it, and subsequently, sent me on a quest for something even greater.

I was introduced to the "Perfect Package Martini" while on a road trip with friends in the Mexican mountainside. It is ironic that I found the perfect martini at an isolated, roadside restaurant/ tequila distillery. This should not surprise me because every Mexican roadside anything has some type of drinking establishment attached to it. It was here in the middle of this Mexican nowhere land where I discovered a new alcohol, and the Perfect Package Martini. This martini is a stunning combination of raicilla (rye-see-ya), Triple Sec, fresh lime, and pomegranate juice. It qualifies as the Perfect Package since it combines unique and rare ingredients with a certain, indescribable freshness. In addition, it is the perfect balance of slightly sweet pomegranate flavour and a hint of lime tang.

What is raicilla, you may ask? Well, to be honest, it is Mexican moonshine. I was eighteen years old the first time I had raicilla, and I drank it out of a mason jar on a Mexican, "bust loose" boat cruise. That was not a good trip and it took me awhile to get over that experience. The men who changed my mind about raicilla were Juan and Jose. Juan, a master tequila/ raicilla maker, explained that tequila is derived from the green Agave plant, while raicilla is harvested from Agave lechuguilla, or wild Blue Agave. Because the Blue Agave plant generally grows wild, raicilla has the ability to make you feel more euphoric than the feared tequila intoxication! It also becomes smoother in taste with each distillation and aging process just like tequila. Hmm that was very interesting. Regardless, I still did not want to drink it, until I met officially met Jose, the raicilla mixologist, who was tall, dark, handsome, charming, and arrogant. Everyone knows that these are the key characteristics of a great bartender. The other key is the know-how to balance flavours with alcohol. Jose explained to me that Juan’s raicilla was ultra smooth and could be sipped straight-up over ice when combined with the perfect amount of fresh lime. I could not resist Jose’s charms and I found myself sampling the raicilla and being pleasantly surprised by its velvety freshness. While Jose and I engaged in a martini conversation, he made me something very special the Perfect Package Martini.

While we sipped our martinis in this remote, roadside haven, I enjoyed an educational conversation with Juan and Jose, and slowly began to experience a light, euphoric feeling. Ah yes, this was the "high" derived from the effects of the raicilla. As I gazed out at my beautiful surroundings, everything seemed to have an extra, sparkly aura. Contentment and bliss radiated from everyone around me. I gazed at my friends who were affectionately touching and enthralled with one another. I realized that I was witnessing a couple who were totally in love and truly, happily married. In my raicilla-induced, euphoric state, I realized that I had found the "Holy Grail". Not only was I experiencing the effects of the Perfect Package Martini firsthand, but I was also privy to a couple who had found their perfect package in each other! Wow, it was rare, but it really did exist! I decided that my quest for the perfect package martini was complete, but it was time to start researching people who had also found their perfect package.

After this eye-opening afternoon with the Perfect Package Martini, I awoke the next day feeling clear-minded (this was an added bonus) and committed to my new quest. Over the next few weeks, I was amazed by my findings. Of all the married people I spoke with, approximately seventy percent believed they could not find everything in one person! The common belief throughout was that no relationship was perfect and it is all about compromise. When I asked people to elaborate on the compromise point, the general theme was that many married individuals felt they had given up something, or altered a part of themselves, in order to be in their marriage. I found this completely disheartening.

The remaining thirty percent of people who believed they had found their "perfect package" had completely different comments. The best one came from a man who said; "A lifetime with the wrong person seems like an eternity, while a lifetime with the right person is never long enough." Another person commented; "When you find the one who is the perfect package, your compromises seem minor and you realize that everything in your relationship is perfect, even the ups and the downs."

When I engaged single people in the conversation topic of "finding the perfect package", their responses were dramatically different. Of all the people I spoke with, approximately fifty percent were single by choice and believed they would find everything in one person. Interestingly enough, they all knew their deal breakers! The other half of respondents were desperately trying to find a partner and were frustrated as they were continually coming up empty-handed. I wonder why? Perhaps they were trying too hard and were settling for less?
I did, however, find one huge, shining example of discovering the perfect package. A good friend of mine announced his engagement after being a self absorbed, male slut for twenty years. Now, it is not a wonder we are friends, being that we share the passion of living large, always doing what we want, and numerous other things that shall remain secret! I remember when he was thirty and believed all the good women were already taken. At thirty-five, he was accused of being fickle and not knowing what he wanted (which was totally true). Over the years he has tried on many different women and has gone through the process of deciding what he really wants. Well, now at the ripe age of forty-two, he is finally getting married, and the best part is, he is totally stoked! After dating his partner for over two years, he confirmed the fact that his compromises have been minimal and quite effortless! He also stated that over the years he considered settling for less than perfect a few times, but he wanted to hold out for the real thing. When he eventually met his fiancée, he knew that he had found the one he wanted to spend forever with. He also admitted that he was scared shitless when he met her and almost bolted. But in the end, the self-confirmed bachelor didn’t bolt because it felt so good. Who would ever have believed it!

This miracle gave me new hope. I began to imagine what would happen if we took all the best things we loved from all the people we have dated in the past, and put them in a blender. Would we end up with the best concoction ever? And if we truly did, would we go for it, or would we run away because we believed it was too good to be true? The real question is; "What would you do?"

Conclusion:

A Perfect Package Martini combines unique and rare ingredients with unbelievable freshness. It is the perfect blend of slightly sweet and slightly tangy. When you consume this martini, you will have a mildly euphoric feeling that will take control of your body and mind, and elevate you to a higher level of consciousness. You will immediately understand that anything is possible, and your fears, insecurities, and personal boundaries will begin to dissolve. You will realize that you can be, do, and have, everything you desire, while simply being you! When you encounter any package in life that seems perfect, you would be silly not to try it on! Why? Because it is like having the ultimate pair of shoes that match everything in your wardrobe! The key is when you find the package they will match you in every way and the relationship becomes effortless and simply perfect. So, I beg of everyone, please try the Perfect Package Martini and hold out for everything that you truly want! Stop settling for something that just isn’t right!

Be, act, and live who you are! In order to attract your perfect package you must be authentic, respect yourself and be clear about what it is that you want. When you are complete within yourself you will bring the same into your life. So when your package shows up you have hold open the door and let them in. Boys, be prepared to role out all the stops. This means go old school, step up on the chivalry, be the man, be the King and treat your package as the queen that she is. When you engage in a relationship with your package, remember like every successful team you don’t have to think alike but you do have to think together.

There is a key ingredient that makes every martini a success. In this case it is Raicilla; a powerful spirit that requires the zest of lime and pomegranate to add balance and flavour. The lightness and euphoric feeling of the Raicilla is pivotal to the overall experience of the Package martini.
