The Rumor Martini

By: Marjie Martini

What possess people to talk about others? Is it a lack of excitement in our own lives? What causes our consent thirst for drama? Why we are obsessed with tabloid trash magazines and the trials and tribulations of celebrities. Rumors can be hurtful and have been known to ruin people’s lives and relationships. If rumors are damaging, why do we need to hear a little bit gossip, every once in awhile? I think it is ingrained in us from a young age because we overheard our mothers gossiping. It seems that no matter how hard we try not to participate in gossip somehow we find ourselves wanting to know the scope. The Rumor martini is a cocktail reserved for those long hot afternoons where you find yourself hanging with your girlfriends discussing the Who’s Who and who’s doing what.

The Rumor martini was created on my latest surf trip with my fabulous surf sister, Pinkie. We had rendezvous in our favorite Mexican surf town for our quarterly adventure. I rolled in late in the afternoon, hot, sweaty and tired. I was pleasantly greeted with a huge hug and the Rumor martini. My first sip was so incredibly refreshing that I instantly felt better. The smell of cilantro was exhilarating! This combined with the flavors of lime and orange caused me to smile sweetly and sigh. I felt at home. Plus, this martini was smooth and strong just the way I like my waves and martinis. With one martini down we hit the waves for our first sunset surf. Ah the bliss!

Pinkie and I met surfing a few years ago and quickly developed the nicknames of Pinkie and Peaches better known as the Barbie twins, due to our girly pink and blue longboards and Pinkie’s very hot yellow bikini. You know that Mexican men have died and gone to heaven when they see two blondes in bikinis carrying surfboards down a dirt road. You would think that we would be offended by our title as the Barbie twins but we aren’t mainly because when it comes to surfing we are very serious and have been known to kill it on the waves. Our surf trips are all about the waves and shits and giggles that we seem to get ourselves into. Our motto “What happens on the road stays on the road!” Until now everything has been top secret! This breach of code is a direct result of the Rumor martini.

After our sunset surf we returned to our poolside playpa and the Rumor martini. We had lots of gossip to catch up on. Our relationships, businesses and of course our sex lives. We were joined by our local surf buddy who is the most unassuming guy you will ever meet but yet an incredible ladies man. I don’t know how he does it but he gets so much action, it blow’s my mind. The women just flock to him from everywhere. After serving him one martini we were in hysterics, as he described all the local gossip and his latest conquests. I swear the smaller the town the worst the rumors are. The first person we wanted to know about was our dreamy surf boy; appropriately named

“Wash him and bring him to my tent” because he is the perfect male specimen.

Tall, dark and gorgeous with intense dark eyes and the most amazing rack I have ever laid eyes on. This is a man who looks at a women and all she wants to do is take her panties off. Pinkie and I secretly joked that he is the one man that we would share in a threesome. According to our buddy he was still in town and still very hot.

A few days later after many surf sessions, Pinkie and I where sitting on the beach when we spotted surf boy. We were stunned when he decided to sit down and chat to us. Pinkie did the talking, mainly because I could not speak due to the drool coming out of my mouth. Surf boy invited us to join him later that night for salsa dancing. After he departed Pinkie and I sat in a stunned silence because neither of us could believe that we had just been hit on by “Wash him and bring him to my tent!” This was going to be a very interesting evening. We needed a few Rumor martinis for some liquid courage and after much primping, (thank god I had brought my salsa shoes), we headed for the bar. It was a hot night. The whole town was out and there were sweaty salsa men everywhere. Pinkie and I were on fire, we never lacked a dance partner or a martini. The giggles just kept coming. Little did we know that we were on our way to getting into some serious shit. Later in the evening, surf boy appeared and decided that he was our new dance partner. Once the bar closed he also decided that he wanted to be our new bed partner. Upon this proposition Pinkie and I had take a Barbie moment in the bathroom. The bathroom is where women discuss everything; many life altering decisions have been made while women pee. This decision was intense! We were freaking out! I was all about living in the moment, Pinkie was more conservative. This was the moment we had been joking about. Do we seize the opportunity? Or live with the regret of not going for it. So what did we decide? Well you will just have to wait for the rumors! All I can say is the “Wash him and bring him to my tent” will never be the same! And just for the record we surfed at 6am the next morning, still giggling! Even hot passion does not interfere with true passion.

Conclusion:

The Rumor martini is a fusion of Cilantro, Orange, Lime and Vodka. This is a martini that is so fresh you might be enticed to inquire about the latest bit of gossip. Rumors can be very dangerous and so can this martini, both should be handled with caution. So what part of the Pinkie and Peaches adventure is true and what part is rumor? Only the Barbie twins will know the truth and what happens on the road stays on the road! The lesson of this rumor is to always watch what you wish for! You just might get it!
