Martinis at Midnight

5 Alive Martini

5 Alive Martini

It is always interesting the unique people that you meet when you are at a party. Well, the party that I attended a few weeks ago was full of entertaining personalities. This gathering was at my friends beautiful beachfront home, the reason for this affair, his annual summertime fireworks party. Let’s just say the fireworks kicked off the party but the sparks kept going all night. It was on this evening that I met Mr. 5 Alive, and his cocktail of choice the 5 Alive martini.

This martini is very simple. What I love about it: is the reason for its creation, which I will get into later. I think that this martini is fantastic because it is the perfect martini for men. Why? Because it is simple and strong! And last time I checked that is the way most women like their men. The 5 Alive martini is a combination of Vodka with a hint of Vermouth and a splash of 5 Alive juice. For those of you unfamiliar with this juice it is the perfect blend of orange, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine and lime juices. It is meant to wake you up in the morning and perk you up through out the day. Well add this to a vodka martini and you will definitely get a perk!

The fireworks party was a legendary event. The setting was incredible, the entire city turned out every summer for musical fireworks that where staged in the bay. My buddy’s house was huge with multiple patios that overlooked the ocean and the fireworks. Invitations to this event were very coveted and people traveled for miles to attend. I was sure that I was invited because of my stellar personality, but I secretly suspected it was because of my martini making capabilities and the fact that I always travel with really attractive girlfriends. The reason for this conclusion was that my buddy was newly single and so were a few of his friends. I find it interesting that hot single women get invited to parties that are hosted by men, but not so much by married women. Just a coincidence? I don’t think so. Later in the evening the party was in full swing,

“with the fireworks over, the martini consumption had greatly increased and so had the sparks.”

This is when I met Mr. 5 Alive. My girlfriend introduced us, he was an average looking guy, mid to late 40’s, what intrigued me was his personality. After a few witty comments I was captivated listening to this man. This guy was funny and I love men who make me laugh. When I meet new people and they find out that I write about love, life and martinis I get one of two responses. The first being, that they run the other way because they don’t want to tell me anything that might end up in a column,( they assume their lives are so interesting that I would have to write about it). Chicken shits! The second being, that they tell me their entire life story.

e is a great guy just not the great guy for The other one was married with a baby and playing Mr. Mom. He was a nice guy but she felt for his wife who now had two children to look after. What amazed her about these encounters was that they had brought up memories from the past; she had been hurt deeply because both men had cheated on her. Somehow it did not matter, enough time had past that she only seemed to remember the good times and the valuable lessons that she had learned. She was happy that they had both found great partners and was delighted that she had not ended up with either of them. This discovery made me think, is it possible to be friends with an Ex?me!”he is a great guy just not the great guy for me!”

“he is a great guy just not the great guy for me!”

“he is a great guy just not the great guy for me!”

I don’t think they plan to spill their guts, but somehow it just ends up happening. Well it happened that night to Mr.5 Alive! It all started off with him telling me about his favorite martini recipe. He once went on a date with a woman but did not want to look like a lush by drinking a straight vodka martini, so he added a splash of 5 Alive juice to give it some color. He ended up dating this woman for a few years and also drinking this combination. The relationship did not last but the martini did. Another story he told me was of a long term affair he had while he was married. Like I said, the guys tell me everything.

Mr. 5 Alive retold the story of how he had an affair for 2 years with a married woman. They both loved it. Neither of them had any intention of leaving their marriages. They had all the security of being married but they had the excitement, passion and nastiness of having a secret lover. When I asked him “What was missing in his marriage for him to have an affair? The answer shocked me “Nothing was missing; it was just exciting to have two women.” I also asked him “Did the affair lead to the end of his marriage?” This answer was also surprising, he replied “No, actually it had prolonged his marriage because he had no reason to leave, he had it all.” For all those women reading this thinking, “What an ass,” I have to agree with you, but Mr. 5 Alive is actually a very nice guy. Obviously, he is not relationship material but a sweet and humorous man. What was really interesting about the story was that the affair ended naturally, the woman moved away. Neither of the spouses ever found out and no one got hurt by the situation. Mr. 5 Alive did end up losing his marriage a few years later, due to other issues. This tale makes me wonder, is it possible to have an affair and have it make your marriage stronger? Or, is it just a diversion that prolongs the inevitable? My other thought is, did the spouses really not suspect anything? I believe that a person’s intuition will always tell them when their partner is cheating. The question is whether or not they are willing to listen to it.

Conclusion:

The 5 Alive martini is a mixture that you pull out when you want to drink something strong but appear that you are just having a cocktail. It is a vodka martini with a splash of citrus juice which gives it that perfect perk. The 5 Alive is a martini that appears to be all sweet on the outside but will kick you on the inside. It is like having an affair, the initial excitement and sexual lust can be so strong but somewhere down the road the sour will catch up with you. You may escape and not get caught having an affair but somehow karma will always come back to kick you. Just remember, you could end up like Mr. 5 Alive: divorced! But, oh could he tell a good story!
