Martinis at Midnight

The Epiphany Martini

The Epiphany Martini

As always insight comes to me in the latest hour of the evening. However on this evening I was not hit with just some insight I was enlightened with a complete epiphany. Over the years I have tasted a few martinis. So it takes a lot for me to be impressed by a new recipe. Usually I am content if I find a martini that is a little different, a twist on something that has already been done. But tonight was a moment where I was introduced to a martini that actually wowed me! I wish I could meet a guy who did the same but for now I will be happy with this martini. This martini not only wowed me but it was a complete epiphany, hence the name.

The Epiphany martini is a delectable combination of vodka and crème de cacao poured into the bottom of a martini glass with chocolate liqueur, Irish crème and raspberry liqueur layered over the top. The most amazing part of this martini is that the martini glass is rimmed with hardened chocolate and to top it off, it is garnished with chocolate shavings and fresh raspberries. The Epiphany martini is like the best piece of raspberry chocolate cake you have ever tasted, you just want it to last forever. This martini is truly amazing and after the first taste you are in complete and utter bliss.

An epiphany by definition is: "a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience." Which is why I thought it was quite ironic that while I was sampling this martini I was discussing my girlfriend’s life altering weekend. My girlfriend was describing her latest weekend of enlightenment with some new and amazing Indian guru. She had just spent two weekends getting her chakras cleared and now was going for some more spiritual training. I was listening intently to all the things she had absorbed and I realized that I had heard her say this many times before. She was repeating all the things she had learned months ago at the last wellness seminar she had attended, but it was just worded differently. It seemed that the messages she was learning were all the same, be kind to your fellow man, slow down and appreciate each day look at the world as a glass half full not half empty. Blah blah blah. The principles were all the same but the package was different. Did she not remember the stuff from a few months ago or was it that she just needed to be constantly reminded.

It occurred to me that in the last 25 years our society has never seen so much enlightenment. Ever since the decline in organized religion we have been on spiritual overload. Instead of us going to church for enlightenment we now have empowerment seminars, yoga retreats, and wellness workshops. Not to mention the ever growing self help section of our bookstores. We have enlightened masters, gurus, counselors and spiritual coaches for us to talk to. And every one of these people has books and cds for you to buy and take home.

So what is it that all these people are trying to tell us? Is everyone really looking that hard for the meaning of life? Or are we all so confused that we need all these avenues to pursue in order to figure out what the hell we are doing? Or is it that we listen but do not actual hear what is being said? Does it just go in one ear and out the other? It was then that my epiphany hit me.

“Everyone just needs to pull their head out of their ass and pay attention!”

If we all stopped for more than a second and actually absorbed what every enlightened person was trying to say, then we would not have to keep searching for enlightenment. But we are all on information overload, we constantly listen to so much stuff that we have stopped absorbing what it is that we are trying to learn. This is why people keep searching for that one spiritual person who is finally going to explain it to them so that they get it! But what we are not getting is that we are not absorbing any information because we have not stopped for long enough.

I tried to explain my epiphany to my girlfriend but she did not get it, she just kept going on about what the Indian guru had told her and how amazingly blissful she has been ever since her life altering weekend. I wondered how long this bliss would last for her. A few months I figured until she was in the next enlightening workshop. Would she ever find her true happiness or would she just be one of those people who are constantly searching for something?

Conclusion:

The Epiphany martini is something that is very simple but it brings you complete and total bliss. Spirituality is very similar; the principles of being a good soul are the same around the world regardless of race or religion. Enlightened people have spoken of these principles for centuries and when you practice them you are in a state of total and complete bliss. However the Epiphany martini is a drink that you have to take the time and savor very slowly, you will want to appreciate every moment because the taste sensations are so good. It is kinda like life; if you slowly savor everyday and appreciate each moment then you do not need to search for the meaning, because you have realized that life really is blissful just like this amazing Epiphany martini.
