Martinis at Midnight

The Winter Wonderland Martini

The Winter Wonderland Martini

As always insight comes to me in the latest hour of the evening. This was an evening that was very inspiring for me because it was the first snow fall. Winter is a season that can bring upon a great amount of change, more so than spring. Spring is all about newness and the blooming of people and the earth, where winter is all about people cocooning and hibernating, it is a season of withdrawing and reflection. I wonder if it is the snowfall that brings on this reflection. There is a reason why people get depressed in the winter, the lack of sun causes them to think about all the things that they ignored in the summer. That is why the summer is sooo fun and the winter is very serious. Usually I despise the winter and dread the first snowfall but this year was different, why because of my very dear and special girlfriends

I was greeted by the first snowfall when I just happened to be trying out a fabulous martini recipe, which I have renamed the Winter Wonderland. This is a festive martini, very pretty to look at with its sugared rim and mint garnish. However the inside of this martini is nothing but sensational just like when you hang you head back and let the first snowflakes touch your tongue, both are truly a great experiences! The Winter Wonderland is a mixture of Bombay Gin with ruby Port and a splash of Cointreau; it is slightly sweet but has no after bite. It is only of those rare martinis that is all alcohol but has such a smooth taste that even the wimpiest martini drinker thinks they are drinking juice.

Well tonight the snow was definably glistening, I was spending the evening with my favorite girlfriends and it was a beautiful sight. Everywhere I looked gorgeous women all laughing and twinkling in the evening light. We were all indulging in this Winter Wonderland martini; it was a very rare occasion that we all got together for some quality

“Q.S.A. time. (Question, sex and alcohol time)”

We needed to discuss all the important things in our lives, we needed to vent about our jobs, rave about our kids, bitch about our partners and most importantly laugh. We needed to laugh so hard that we cried, and of course we needed to dance.

It is amazing how shaking your bootie can relieve so much stress and of course you always feel extremely sexy when you are busting out the moves. It was a night when stories where exchanged, triumphs were toasted, disappointments supported and new beginning encouraged.

As I took a sip of my Winter Wonderland martini I looked around and realized that we really are from Venus! Thank god we are not from Mars. The boys would never understand a night like this, the laughs, tears, hugs and most importantly the love. A good guy’s night is about grunting, farting, beer and ball! And we doubt that we are the more evolved sex! Hello we are the ones with the vagina! Woman at least keep there jewels in a garage, guys just let it all hang out! That should have been our first clue! We are woman, beautiful, sexy, intriguing and insightful woman. We are soul sisters, the friends that provide you with everything you can not get from your great mars partner.

Friendships that form a sisterhood are like snowflakes they glisten and are very rare. They are the friendships that have the ups and downs, the girlfriends that you want to bitch slap sometimes and kiss the rest of the time. They are the snowflakes that support all the bad decisions and the good ones. They are the ones that encourage you to take chances and follow your dreams, knowing that if you fail they will be there to pick up the pieces, wipe your tears and pour you a strong martini. The boys will come, young and old. (As I know) the kids will grow up, our laugh lines will deepen, and our bobs will droop, but our soul sisters will always be there for us no matter what has happened.

Conclusion:

The Winter Wonderland martini is very unique and special just like the first snowfall of the season. It is a blend of gin and port that gives it a subtle sweetness, mixed with the sugared rim it like the snowflake that is glistening in the evening air. When you sit with your friends and conspire about life and love, it is the support of your girlfriends that will help you face the unafraid and the plans that you have made, because that is when you know you are truly walking, living and drinking in a Winter Wonderland.
